22-year-old pedestrian dies after being hit by bus, car

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A 22-year-old woman was identified Tuesday as the pedestrian who died Monday night after being hit by a bus and a car on the east side.

Emergency crews were sent shortly before 7 p.m. Monday to East 34th Street and North Dequincy Street. That’s between North Sherman Drive and Emerson Avenue.

Immanuela Irving was hit crossing the street, police said. She was not at a crosswalk. First, Irving was hit by an IndyGo bus. Then, a car hit her. That car took off.

The bus driver was cooperating and will go through a standard blood draw to test for alcohol and drug use.

Police received a few different descriptions of the car but as of Tuesday had released no details on what they are seeking yet.

It was unknown whether people were on the bus when the crash occurred.
