From competitor to partner: Carly Fiorina talks about campaign, Cruz

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Ted Cruz announced Wednesday that he has chosen Carly Fiorina to be his running mate if he secures the GOP nomination.

Fiorina sat down with 24-Hour News 8’s Drew Blair to talk about the campaign and her role. She said the announcement of her running alongside Cruz was not done out of desperation.

“Indiana’s very important, let’s face it.  The Hoosier state is playing a very important role in this Republican primary contest.”

She also said that the Cruz/Fiorina campaign is far from over.

“This thing isn’t over, it isn’t over until Donald Trump gets 1,237 delegates, the majority of the delegates in the Republican party, and he hasn’t gotten that number. And he’s not going to get that number.”

Carly Fiorina went from being competition in the GOP race to a partner with Ted Cruz. She said the change closely resembled what she’s done in the business world for years.

“That’s nothing new, I’ve been an competitor and a partner, that’s what you do in business frequently and I’m really proud and honored and humbled as well to join with Ted as his partner,” Fiorina said. “I think this is a really important fight. I do think it’s a fight. I think it’s a fight for the soul of our party, it’s a fight for the future of our nation, our possibilities, our opportunities, our liberties, our security. And I think it’s a fight that the people of Indiana understand and I hope that they’ll join with Ted and I to fight for our future as a nation.”

If Cruz wins Indiana, it will put a stop on Trump’s dominance with GOP delegates. Fiorina said she hopes Hoosiers will understand how important they are in this race.

“The Hoosier state cares deeply about character and values, so I’d ask the people of Indiana to think about that. This is a state that understands what’s at stake for jobs and opportunity. My goodness, Carrier just left this  state to go to Mexico. It’s hard to put new jobs in this country and it should be so much easier.”

Fiorina wants the people to know that this race isn’t over and they will continue to fight for the nomination and the nation.

“I know, and I think the people of Indiana know, these people are fighters. And so are Ted Cruz and Carly Fiorina.”

The Indiana primary is May 3.
