Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The shopping season is well underway with the passing of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.
The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is another annual event, Giving Tuesday.
It is a global day that is aimed at giving back and a way to kick-start the holiday giving season.
Many people are expected to participate in the day and there are local events planned as well.
Westminster Neighborhood Services on the near east side is participating in Giving Tuesday by raising money for their Christmas basket program.
The goal is to distribute baskets to 300 families throughout the holiday season. Each basket will be stocked with a turkey, ingredients for a Christmas day meal, pantry staples, a hygiene bag filled with shampoo, detergent, soap and hats, gloves, socks and underwear for everyone in the family.
The goal for Giving Tuesday is to raise enough to pay for 25 of those baskets, or $4,375.
Riley Children’s Foundation is also involved in the day.
From 5 a.m. until midnight, people can donate to the Riley Children’s Foundation. Those funds go to support the children at Riley who are receiving ongoing medical treatment.
