Greenwood Community Center to close for renovations

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — The Greenwood Community Center is getting it’s first face lift in nearly 25 years but it will have to shut down for about 8 months.

At a cost of just over $2 million, the community center will expand the adult workout area, add an area devoted entirely to children, add a special climbing sculpture and more rooms for fitness classes.

In addition, they will upgrade the areas that are already part of the center.

“We’ve really have identified a deficiency on the south side and we think people will take advantage of it. People need it. It’s a capitol development project,” said Rob Taggart, director of parks and recreation.

Left over bond money and impact fees will pay for the rehab.

The Greenwood Community Center will shut down April 1 for renovations and reopen in mid-to-late December, but most outdoor programs will continue as normal.
