Home insurance agents left in the dark

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) – Home insurance agent Mike Pardee worked in the dark in his office on Tuesday.

The power outage came after a powerful storm swept through the West side of the city, toppling trees, slicing power lines and leaving thousands in the dark.

“We are just getting by. It’s a slow process,” said Pardee.

For 41 years, Pardee has been in the insurance business, but today marked a new adventure as he tried to help his clients through the dark.

Many of the water restoration companies are booked and won’t be able to make come to some locations for another 24 hours.

Pardee suggested his clients should call the national office instead of some of the local agents.

Clients were encouraged to keep their claim packet handy and to keep any receipts for work done on the  house for to make sure they could be reimbursed.

Pardee recommended that residents should call 911 if their home was in a state of emergency or if the structure could possibly collapse.
