Identity of teen killed in Avon crash released

AVON, Ind. (WISH) — The Avon Police Department has identified the teen who died in a single-vehicle crash in Avon Wednesday evening as 17-year-old Jonathan Legg.

According to a release from the Avon Police Department, Legg’s red Ford Fusion struck a tree on the west edge of the road in the 1700 block of South County Road 525 East.

The accident happened just south of Prestwick Country Club around 6:30 p.m. Police said Legg was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials from Wayne Townships school shared their condolences.

According to the release, Legg was born in Indianapolis and lived with his mother and step-father in Avon. He was a student at Avon High School. Legg was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Avon High School Marching Black and Gold, Avon High School Symphonic Band, and the Avon High School Jazz Band.

His family said he was an older brother to three siblings and loved hunting, shooting, basketball and playing video games.

The accident remains under investigation by the Avon Police Department. Police said drugs or alcohol are not believed to be involved in the accident.
