IFD: Man dead in crash near downtown Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One person was killed in an early morning crash near downtown Indianapolis on Wednesday.

The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to the crash at North Harding and West Washington streets shortly after 3:30 a.m.

According to officials with IFD, a car was heading eastbound on Washington St. when it hit a bridge support at Washington St. and Harding St.

Officials say the middle-aged male driver of the car was killed. They say he was the only person in the car when it crashed and that it appears no other vehicles were involved.

It’s unclear what caused the crash. The man’s name has not been released.

Emergency crews said they’d be on scene for the next 2-3 hours investigating and working to clear the scene.
