INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – Indiana University’s former athletic director, Fred Glass, is joining Indianapolis-based Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP as a partner. The law firm says Glass will focus on general business law as well as sports, media, and entertainment, higher education, and employment issues, among others.

Glass’ appointment will be effective at the end of October.

“He knows how to get things done in a smart and strategic manner, and clients will benefit tremendously from his unique and impressive background,” said Taft’s Chairman and Managing Partner Robert Hicks. “It is difficult to think of another individual with such a strong and well-established reputation in the higher education, sports, business, and legal communities. We are delighted and honored that Fred selected Taft as the best fit for the next chapter of his career.”

Glass announced in December he was retiring as IU’s athletic director at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. In addition to his role at IU, Glass previously served on the Marion County Capital Improvement Board, where he played a role in several sports-related initiatives in Indianapolis, including the 30-year agreement to keep the Colts in Indianapolis, the development of Lucas Oil Stadium, and the expansion of the Indiana Convention Center.

Taft says it has hired 14 attorneys, with an additional 17 offers extended and accepted by first-year associates since March.
