Ivy Tech celebrates diamond anniversary

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Ivy Tech Community College celebrates its 60-year anniversary on Wednesday.

Courtney Roberts, president of the Ivy Tech Foundation, has emphasized growth for the college, alongside Sue Ellspermann, president of the college system.

Roberts says that over 60 years, Ivy Tech has launched several programs designed to support the state’s workforce needs, including an expansion of the nursing program.

“There’s so much that we’re doing across the state that we’ve done over the last 60 years that we’ll continue to do in the future,” Roberts said.

Roberts says Ivy Tech has become a place for women not just to work, but to lead. Several leaders within Ivy Tech are women, serving as powerful examples for their female students.

“Ivy Tech is a place for women to come and women to not just work, but to also lead. I’m proud to say that for the first time ever in the college’s history, we are led by a woman. The president of the college is Dr. Sue Ellspermann. Our state board of Trustees is chaired by a woman and the foundation board is chaired by a woman.”

Ivy Tech is the largest community college in Indiana and the largest accredited community college in the country. It contributes nearly $4 billion dollars annually to Indiana’s economy, impacting communities statewide.
