IPS teachers share welcome back messages ahead of first day of school
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Public Schools teachers are sharing welcome back messages to families as they head back to school with 100% remote learning Monday morning.
In a video posted Friday, IPS Superintendent Aleesia Johnson also shared plans for what remote learning will look like.
Students will have a daily schedule and attendance will be taken.
The district is also making sure all students receive either an iPad or Chromebook for the new school year. A MiFi mobile hot spot device will also be given to families without internet access.
According to the IPS Back to School plan, the Food Service Team will be providing breakfast and lunch to all IPS students four days a week also starting Monday.
Famiies can pick up the prepackaged meals from distribution centers at various IPS school parking lots.
Last month, the IPS Board of School Commissioners made the decision to go remote starting Aug. 17 through at least Oct. 2.
In the video shared by IPS, Johnson is joined by several teachers sharing uplifting messages to help ease families back into a year full of uncertainty.
“We’re all going to need to channel those people or things that motivate us. So whether it’s your favorite singer or a painting that you cherish, find that thing that will energize you in this journey ahead,” said Johnson who is seen sporting a Beyonce t-shirt in the video.
Johnson is asking families to be patient and flexible as the district navigates the first few weeks of school.
