Nearly 50 Ind. Radio Shacks slated to close

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A giant in the retail technology sales industry is planning to shutter at least 45 stores across the state, including seven in Marion County, according to a document obtained by 24-Hour News 8.

Radio Shack, who earlier this week filed for bankruptcy, has not said when it plans to close the nearly 2,400 stores on its current chopping block.

According to 24-Hour News 8’s analysis of the listed properties, the company will close at least 20 Indianapolis area stores. According to Radio Shack’s website, there are at present about 25-30 stores within 25 miles of downtown Indianapolis.

There are 108 Radio Shack stores across the state, according to the website.

Money problems have plagued the company in recent years, including last March, when it announced it planned to close 1,100 stores.

24-Hour News 8 will continue to follow this story, and will report any developments — including whether more Indiana stores will be sold — when those details are made available.
