Ohio Gov. Kasich announces presidential bid

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) – Ohio Governor John Kasich made his plans for a presidential bid official on Tuesday.

The Kasich for America campaign made the announcement Tuesday morning at The Ohio State University.

Kasich already made his intentions known about a run for the office. The Republican already has $11.5 million in campaign support from the group New Day for America.

This is Kasich’s second run for the White House. He ran in 2000 before giving way to George W. Bush.

The Associated Press reports that Kasich is considered more moderate than the rest of the crowded GOP field, but is not well known among voters.

The governor’s campaign fired up a web site at the end of June that offers free tickets to Tuesday’s announcement.
