Police: Alcohol suspected in triple fatal crash

OSSIAN, Ind. (WANE) – Three people died when two vehicles collided head-on along State Road 1 early Saturday morning.

According to the Wells County Sheriff’s Department, Anthony W. Dager was driving southbound on State Road 1 about 4:40 a.m. Saturday when he crossed into the northbound lane, striking a vehicle that was headed north towards Fort Wayne International Airport.

That vehicle’s driver, Rebecca R. Prentice, was pronounced dead at the scene along with the front seat passenger, Paul E. Penrod. The back seat passenger, Karen S. Smith was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital, where she later died.

Dager was taken to a hospital but is expected to recover, according to WISH-TV sister station WANE News.

Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash.
