INGALLS, Ind. (WISH) – Officials are investigating after a vehicle pursuit ended Wednesday morning on Interstate 69 in Madison County.

The chase ended just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, near the 215-mile marker.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the chase started around 2:30 a.m. when Ingalls police attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Matthew Hargrove, 43. The vehicle was traveling north at 25 mph.

Instead of complying with officers, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed and changed directions three times in the northbound lanes. The vehicle then proceeded to strike four police cars and a semi.

At one point, Hargrove was going the wrong way in the southbound lanes.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop against a guardrail, but Hargrove refused to exit the vehicle and became combative with officers. Officer used a taser to get him to leave the car.

Hargrove then had a medical event and was transported to the hospital and was initially listed in critical condition.

A female passenger was released at the scene.
