Police make arrest in Sullivan County animal neglect case

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTHI) – Police have made an arrest in a Sullivan County animal neglect case.

Indiana State Police report 38-year-old David Weger was arrested Monday night.

The arrest comes after dogs and rabbits were found living in poor conditions at 311 East Washington Street in Sullivan.

Police report officers discovered two Pitbull dogs, two mixed breed dogs, four live rabbits and twenty-one deceased rabbits. Officers reported seeing a lot of animal feces and urine. There was also a flea infestation, dry animal food scattered about, and no running water.

The animals were taken from the house Saturday after a search warrant was issued.

In the backyard of the residence, officers discovered two burial sites which contained what appeared to be two bludgeoned dogs and one rabbit.

Weger is reported to have rented the house at one point in time.

Weger faces 17  preliminary misdemeanor counts of abandoned and animal neglect. He was taken to the Sullivan County Jail with a bond of $68,000 with 10% allowed.
