Police: Robbery suspects evade police, crash

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) – Police said a robbery in Indianapolis ended with a car crash and foot chase through the streets of Lawrence this morning.

According to Lawrence police, a witness to the robbery was following an SUV believed to have the suspects inside from I-465 onto Pendleton Pike.

Lawrence Police tried to pull the SUV over and it took off. The SUV crashed into a van at the intersection of Mowery Road.

“Heard a loud car impact, very loud. So I went to the phone, hit 911, and the lady said she knew,” said Gary Benjamin, who works at a carpet store nearby.

The van’s occupants were taken to the hospital and listed as stable.

Police said the two suspects then fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood where they were arrested. They have been identified as 31-year-old Kevin Jones and 18-year-old Theondre Matthews.

“They’re suspects in a series apparently, in a series of robberies that may have occurred in (Indianapolis) so we’re working collaboratively with IMPD to follow up and to hold these folks accountable,” said Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff, Lawerence Police Department.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the pair robbed Rich Oil in the 6000 block of Brookville Road.
