Shooting leaves 2 dead on northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Officers are investigating after a northwest side shooting that left two men in their 20s dead.

Officers were called to the 6400 block of Mission Terrace — that’s south of West 46th Street and west of North High School Road — on reports of shots fired in the area around 8:48 p.m. Sunday.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Public Information Officer Genae Cook confirmed Sunday night that one person was fatally shot as of 9:30 pm.

At roughly 9:48 p.m., IMPD provided an update via Twitter, confirming that two people had died as a result of the shooting:

IMPD Capt. Harold Turner at the scene said the victims were both men, ages 18 and 23, and that they were found within 15 to 20 feet of each other. One victim died at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries while at the hospital.

Turner said a stray bullet also went into an apartment. Police have received reports of a suspect leaving the scene on foot, but no suspect description has been provided.

Turner went on to say that the apartment has a history of police callouts. IMPD said they would be looking into any possible connections between Saturday night’s shootings and Sunday night’s double shooting but that nothing had led them to believe the incidents were connected.
