South Bend solar company showcases its sustainability

A South Bend based solar development company is trying to reduce its own carbon footprint.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — Inovateus Solar has released its first annual sustainability report. The solar energy developer based in South Bend says as part of its sustainability efforts, it has developed a plan for its operations to become 100% carbon neutral by 2025.

The company says the initiatives focus on developing sustainable solar projects with zero-waste construction through end-of-life-cycle decommissioning.

It says standard solar development could still have a negative impact on the environment when you factor in the life span of the project.

“It’s great for solar companies to be helping the world transition to renewable energy, but it’s two steps forward and one step back if our work harms the environment,” said Tyler Kanczuzewski, Inovateus vice president of marketing & sustainability.

Inovateus says it can design projects with higher efficiency solar panels and use technology to maximize solar generation. It also intends to reduce the carbon footprint of its shipping and packaging.

The company says it has developed over 400 megawatts (MW) of municipal, commercial, industrial, educational, and utility solar projects.

Inovateus also expects to achieve Energy Star certification for its northern Indiana headquarters by the end of this year.
