Speedway reserve officer charged for domestic battery

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — A reserve officer with the Speedway Police Department has resigned after being arrested and charged for domestic battery.

Reserve Officer Raymond Hurt was arrested on Thursday following a disturbance call in the 4800 block of W. 24th St. in Speedway on Wednesday.

When officers arrived on Wednesday morning, Hurt’s former girlfriend told police that their altercation was only verbal. Later that morning, the woman told police that Hurt had battered her.

The Speedway Police Department said the findings were presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, leading to charges being filed.

Court documents state that the girlfriend said that Hurt hit her in the face with a backhand strike. She also said she didn’t want Hurt to get in trouble, knowing that he wanted to be a full-time police officer.

Hurt faces charges of domestic battery and batter resulting in bodily injury. Both are class A misdemeanors.
