Spring snow, icy roads lead to dozens of crashes on Indianapolis roads

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana State Police responded to at least 59 accidents within 12 hours, officials said Sunday morning.

18 crashes resulted in injuries.

At least 15 active crash scenes were being cleared simultaneously around 4 a.m. across Indianapolis, authorities told News 8.

An unanticipated build-up of black ice contributed to dangerous driving conditions, according to investigators.

Police reports indicated poor judgment — not weather —was responsible for a hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning in Broad Ripple.

A suspected drunk driver was arrested in connection with the fatal crash in the 800 block of Broad Ripple Avenue.
