Teen pulled from YMCA pool after near-drowning

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — A teenager was rescued from the bottom of a YMCA pool on Saturday.

Emergency crews were called to the YMCA at 28 West 12th Street in Anderson around 4:30 p.m.

Anderson police said a 19-year-old boy was swimming with two friends in an area 12 feet deep when one of them yelled for help.

A lifeguard jumped in but was unable to pull the boy from the bottom of the pool. Two people nearby grabbed a life hook and helped bring him to the surface.

Police said he was unresponsive and not breathing. CPR was immediately started.

Medics transported him to St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Anderson, and he was later flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Police did not specify his condition.
