What’s next for the Colts after taking ownership of AFC South?
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Colts took ownership of the AFC South on Thursday when they put the hurt on the Tennessee Titans–especially in the second half of Thursday Night Football.
The play that changed the game was when the Titan’s second drive of the second half stalled, and someone on Tennessee’s punt coverage unit forgot to block E.J. Speed, allowing him to block the punt. T.J. Carrie scooped up the ball and ran it in to score.
It’s the team’s first blocked punt returned for a touchdown since 2010. However, it’s definitely not the first momentum-changing play the Horsehoe’s special teams unit has made this season. So what has gotten into them?
“It’s big because we have so many people that are Year 2 and Year 3 into the system,” said Colts linebacker E.J. Speed. “We practice very hard on special teams. Our three phases, everything matters and every little technique, every little detail matters when we step on the field and practice. It just transfers over to the game. People have a problem with us on special teams because not everybody practices like we do.”
“We just kind of came in and said, ‘This is what we expected, a tight game.’ Just going back and forth. Felt like we were able to do some things, but we needed to lock in and finish it off, which we did,” said Colts head coach Frank Reich.
