Matt Hires to perform at Rathskeller
Singer/Songwriter Matt Hires says he hit a crossroads in his life just as he turned 30 years old and began questioning life, growth, faith, culture and his place in the world. Like so many of us do, over and over again throughout life, Hires decided to reboot. He recently made the move to Nashville. It was a bold move, but a critical one for his career especially.
The inspiration from the creative community in Nashville led him to explore uncharted territory within’ his songwriting. In the process, he found his ‘new voice’ and decided to leverage that to put together an incredible, self-revealing set of 10-songs and share it with the world, and that is what makes this album so incredible. Throwing out any pre-conceived ideas of who he was as an artist, he laid everything out there, holding nothing back.
Today on Indy Style, Matt shares a couple of songs from his latest record, in preview of tonight’s performance at The Rathskeller in Indianapolis.
About the Album:
On songs such as, “Fighting A Ghost,” Hires asks if everything ‘we’ are fighting for in life is worth it. Dropping personal illusions from his past he sings “Holy War,” a battle with himself about the foundation of his religious upbringing. Searching for strength, he calls for a revival with “Glory Bound” and continues on to discover more about the universal and individual pursuit of the American dream in “The Wilderness.” Closing out the compelling, 10-song collection, “Don’t Let Your Heart Grow Cold,” is a hopeful message of new beginnings.
American Wilderness was recorded in Nashville and produced by Randall Kent. The album is the follow up to two previous, major label releases including This World Won’t Last Forever, But Tonight We Can Pretend and Take Us To The Start, which hit the Top 10 on iTunes’ overall Top Albums chart. Hires’ songs have been heard in TV series; Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Cougar Town and more. Look for an upcoming tour announcement to come this fall.Tonight’s Performance:
