2-year-old dies after New Whiteland house fire

NEW WHITELAND, Ind. (WISH) – A 2-year-old girl died from her injuries after a house fire in New Whiteland Tuesday.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the girl as Manserat Kaur.

Johnson County dispatchers said the house fire was in the 700 block of Hickory Pine Drive.

Two adults and a child were home when the fire began.

Witnesses said they saw a lot of smoke and flames shooting from the second story of the house.

New Whiteland Fire Chief Derek Wilson said it took a ladder truck to extricate the girl from the second story window.

According to fire officials, the 2-year-old was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in serious condition. An adult female was also injured in the fire.

Fire fighters had the fire out before 1:45 p.m. The State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the cause.

“We’ve got all hands on deck here to determine that and within the coming hopefully days we will have all those answers,” Wilson said.
