Authorities identify man shot and killed on east side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – 20–year-old Ewart Lollis was shot and killed early Tuesday morning, according to the coroner’s office.

It happened on the 5200 block of Marrison Place, which is near 42nd Street and North Emerson Avenue, around 1 a.m.

Police said the original 911 came in as a self inflicted gun shot wound. However, detectives were given inconsistent statements and so further investigation is required. According to the victim’s girlfriend Nijah Phillips, a suspect came over and kicked open the door before shooting and killing Lollis.

According to Phillips, Lollis lived at the home with his grandmother.

Authorities would not specify whether it happened outside or inside the home, but investigators spent more than six hours inside the home.

Phillips got to the scene as soon as she heard the news and is in shock, “It’s unexpected. He didn’t do nothing. He went to work, came home. This is what happened.”

Desmond Washington describes Lollis as a good friend, “It’s crazy that I’m out here, 6:00 in the morning, to know, that my dog is deceased. It’s killing me.”

Both Washington and Phillips described Lollis as a man who was hardworking, and stayed out of trouble.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Agency is processing the crime scene. Police ask that you call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS with any information.
