Ballard presents Reggie Wayne with key to the city

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Former Indianapolis Colt Reggie Wayne was handed over the key to the city on Friday afternoon.

Mayor Greg Ballard presented Wayne with the key during the Indiana Black Expo’s Corporate Luncheon. IBE also declared it to be “Reggie Wayne Weekend” during their Summer Celebration.

Wayne is considered one of the greatest receivers in the Colts’ history. Wayne had a hall-of-fame caliber career as a Colt – playing 14 years and making the Pro Bowl six times.

The Colts parted ways with Wayne in March, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Ballard said Wayne has been a role model for many years and deserves this recognition.

“Reggie has given back to our community on and off the field, and I am thrilled to present him with the key to the city,” said Ballard.

IBE will also honor Wayne during a “Thank You Reggie” exhibit at the Cultural Arts Pavilion starting Friday and goes to Sunday. The community can also sign a display and see Wayne during the annual Amp Harris & Reggie Wayne Saving Our Youth Celebrity Basketball game on Saturday at 6 p.m. in at Hall J of the Indiana Convention Center.
