Boxers fight for spot in Golden Gloves Grand Championship
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) –Dozens of young boxers finished fighting for the Indiana Golden Gloves on Thursday evening.
The winner goes on to the Golden Gloves Grand Championship in Las Vegas next month.
Among the contenders was 20-year old Brandon Saavedra. Last month 24-Hour News 8 featured Saavedra and his coach, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer Pat McPherson in March.
Saavedra said he had a good shot at the title this year. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be on Thursday night.
“One of the biggest challenges I’ve had yet. It was a great experience and I loved every second of it,” said Saavedra.
He coach said you can’t win them all.
“Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose its nice to get the jacket and the shiny hardware. But you know at the end of the day, he’s accomplished so much in the last three years,” said McPherson.
Officer McPherson spends a good deal of his spare time coaching at risk youth on the East Side for no charge.
