Cold start to Wednesday, messy Thursday ahead

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A cold start to Wednesday morning with temperatures in the upper teens and lower 20s with wind chills in the lower teens. Lots of sunshine for Wednesday with highs climbing to the upper 30s. Clouds begin to thicken up during the late part of the day.

Big story will be the winter precipitation. Freezing rain and sleet arrive Wednesday night in southern Indiana. Overnight, all of central Indiana has a Winter Weather Advisory from 1 am to 7pm. Sleet, snow and freezing rain spread in by 4am.

The morning commute could be slick and messy as ice accumulation is possible. Temperatures Thursday morning will hover near the freezing mark and road temperatures will be cooling throughout the overnight. Some ice could stick leading to light accumulation to a tenth of an inch of ice. Mid to late morning precipitation will transition over to all snow form west to east. Precipitation will transition to all snow by late morning early afternoon. Snow accumulation looks to be 2-4″ in western Indiana, with 1-3″ of snow from Indy and north.

Late Thursday, the low pressure system will exit east bound and precipitation will move out late Thursday night.

Friday not looking bad with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 40s with lots of sunshine. This weekend  looks split for right now with Saturday staying dry with mainly sunny skies and highs in the 40s with a better chance of a mix Sunday with highs in the upper 30s.

Thanksgiving week to start is quiet and sunny with highs in the 40s.
