Famous song has rich tradition at Indy 500
SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) – “Back Home Again in Indiana” is a song that has a rich tradition at the Indianapolis 500.
The song has many different singers over the years. In 1955, entertainer Dinah Shore was one of the singers and was the only female solo performer in history. Mel Torme had the job in 1961. In 1965 Jonny Desmond performed the song along with Peter Marshall in 1979. However, the most famous and loved singer was Jim Nabors.
Nabors sang the song for nearly four decades. He first sang the song in 1972 and ended his tradition in 2014.
“Straight No Chaser” sang the song at the race in 2015.
