Former NFL great talks about battle with ALS

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) — It’s been just over a week since Tim Green made his battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease public, first posting the news on Facebook and then sharing his story with all of America on “60 Minutes.”

Since that emotional interview aired, more than $1 million has been donated to TackleALS — an initiative started by Green himself aimed at raising awareness and money needed for critical research that could one day lead to a cure.

News 8’s sister station WSYR sat down with Tim Green, who says despite this devastating diagnosis, he has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Over the weekend, Tim and his family launched TackleALS.com to raise money for ALS research.

Their goal is to hit $10 million– that would start a master pipeline trial giving all ALS patients access to new treatments.

All donations will go directly to ALS research.
