IMPD’s timeline details events leading to homeowner’s shooting death

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were involved in a shooting early Monday, Nov. 19 that left a homeowner dead.

According to IMPD’s timeline, dispatch initially received an incomplete 911 call originating from a residence in the 6200 block of Monteo Drive just before 1 a.m.

Following the call, just before 1:30 a.m., officers were said to be heading to the scene, arriving on scene minutes later.

A few minutes later, IMPD’s detailing of the events show that it they were involved in a police-action shooting and also gave description of their suspect, an early white male between 5’6″ and 5’10”.

Then at 1:40 a.m., dispatch received a phone call from a female stating approximately five or six shots had been fired and that her husband, who was inside the residence, had been shot.

She also told dispatch that she saw officers crouched behind their vehicles.

Officers then radioed dispatch claiming that it was the elderly man who was firing at officers. SWAT was then called to the scene for assistance.

There were attempts, by dispatch, to reestablish communication with the female, but those were unsuccessful, according to IMPD.

At approximately, 1:45 a.m., officers call medics to the scene, letting them know the scene was safe at that point. Minutes later, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators remained on several several hours gathering information and evidence until 9:13 a.m. when the scene was cleared.
