Man struck by car on east side street with no sidewalks

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man was taken to an Indianapolis hospital Thursday morning with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle on the city’s east side, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said.

It happened in the 2300 block of North Shadeland Avenue, near Interstate 70, shortly after 6 a.m.

According to police, there are no sidewalks in the area. They say the man was walking in the southbound lane of North Shadeland Avenue when he was hit. It was raining at the time and there are no lights on the road.

Police say man was breathing, but was unconscious, when he was transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital.

Police said the striking vehicle remained on scene and the driver was cooperating with officers.

According to IMPD, the southbound lane of Shadeland Avenue, from the 2300 block up to the 2600 block, was closed. Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
