Mozel Sanders’ Thanksgiving Dinner volunteers prepare thousands of meals

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Thousands of volunteers were at Butler University Thanksgiving morning preparing meals for the annual Mozel Sanders Annual Thanksgiving Dinner.

The volunteers prepared 15,000 pounds of turkey, 10,000 pounds of dressing, 2,000 cans of green beans, 1,200 gallons of gravy, 10,000 pounds of apple crisp and 80,000 dinner rolls.

Mozel Sanders’ Thanksgiving Dinner feeds more than 40,000 people on one day. The dinner provides 40 satellite locations.

It is estimated that 2,000 people volunteered.

“This is our 46th year of feeding. It is done off the backs of pure volunteerism,” said Stephen Mozel Sanders.

Disturbed by seeing a man hungry on Thanksgiving Day, the late Rev. Mozel Sanders started feeding the hungry on Thanksgiving. It has grown to an annual tradition.
