Police chase ends in crash on south side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Officers were involved in a police chase Wednesday morning that ended in a crash.

IMPD said the chase started when a sergeant was doing a surveillance at a location Charles Boyd, 35, was known to hang around.

They said they have been looking for Boyd for several weeks for having two felony warrants. One felony warrant was for criminal recklessness and the other was for resisting law enforcement.

Police said the sergeant saw Boyd leave a home and get into the passenger side of a vehicle. When Boyd saw the officer, they said he slid into the driver’s seat and led officers on the chase a little after 8 a.m.

The chase ended when Boyd crashed his vehicle and was taken into custody. The  vehicle was also reported stolen.

Police said the crash ended on East Street and Mills Avenue just north of I-465.

During the pursuit, police said Boyd admitted to swallowing heroin and methamphetamine so he was transported to Eskenazi Hospital for evaluation.
