Strong storms possible this evening with better weather for the weekend
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Happy Friday, everyone and Happy National S’mores/Lazy Day! Our Friday is off to a rather lazy start, but that’ll change this afternoon.
Temperatures will quickly climb from the mid to upper 60s into the upper 70s just before lunchtime under partly to mostly cloudy skies.
High temps will eventually soar into the upper 80s this afternoon.
With the heat and humidity already in place, a cold front crashing in from the north will spark a few strong storms as early as 4-5 p.m. with better chances for rain through the evening hours.
A MARGINAL Risk is in place for much of central Indiana this afternoon/evening with threats for damaging wind and hail in the stronger storms.
If you’re headed out to the 25th Dan Patch Stakes, just keep an umbrella or poncho handy as the storms slide through. We’ll likely clear out by late this evening.
As skies clear tonight, we’ll see temps slowly slide back to where we started, into the mid to upper 60s by daybreak Saturday.
The first half of Saturday looks nice with mostly cloudy skies.
You’ll be able to knock out the outdoor exercise or chores early before a scattering of storms develops Saturday afternoon.
Highs will top out in the low 80s tomorrow and the mid 80s with similar low-end rain chances Sunday.
With a few breaks in the clouds and comfy temps, head outside and try to spot a few meteors either Saturday or Sunday evening as the Perseids peak at 60-70 meteors per hour! Just look to the northeast!
Rain chances will fall off through the first half of the week with temps set to rebound briefly into Tuesday.
Better chances for more widespread, heavy rain and a big cool-down will move in by mid-week next week, so don’t hang the umbrellas up just yet!
