Wet Wednesday ahead, with more rain to end workweek

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A soggy setup for the second half of the week could lead to some flooding concerns for portions of the area.

Tonight:

Clouds will be on the increase, but the majority of the night looks dry.  Rain should hold off for much of the area until after 3 a.m.

Temperatures will hold steady in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Wednesday:

Wet weather will be on tap for much of the day and most of the area.  Expect showers to fill in by early morning as a cold front marches through the state. While there will be some breaks from time to time (especially northwest of Indy, where you may have more dry time than others), the majority of the day time hours appear to be pretty soggy. Some thunder can’t be ruled out.

Temperatures will slowly fall through the day.

Trick-or-treat forecast:

Not much change to the forecast. There is optimism that many areas will be dry north of Indianapolis for the early to midevening hours. Around the metro area, it’s a close call — so, for now, I think it is best to mention rain chances, but there may be many that stay dry for a few hours. If you live south of Indy, prepare for a wet evening, as there will be very little break from the consistent rainfall.

Regardless if you have rain or not, temperatures will run cooler, with early evening numbers in the lower to middle 50s.

The window is pretty tight for those that dry out as rain will surge back north late Wednesday night and continue into Thursday.  Heavy rain possibilities along with the consistent threat for rain over the long term has prompted concerns for flooding issues in the southeastern quarter of the state, where rainfall totals could exceed 3 inches. A Flood Watch will be in effect for that area through Friday morning.

8-day forecast:

A pretty busy pattern over the long term with isolated rain chances for Friday. A brief dry day will occur Saturday before spotty rain chances move in Monday and Tuesday, and another decent shot for widespread rain moving in for Election Day.
