1 dead, 1 critical in southwest side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers say one person has died and a second person was injured in a southwest side shooting on Friday.

IMPD was called to the 3400 block of South Lynhurst Drive around 8:40 p.m Friday.

Officials with IMPD say that two people where found shot at the scene, 35-year-old Patrick Brown and 38-year-old Cecilia Land. They say both victims were transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital.  However, Brown later died at the hospital. Land is in critical but stable condition.

Police say 26-year-old Rebecca Lawson was taken into custody.

According to police, Lawson called 911 saying that she was the person responsible for the shooting.

Police go on to say that Lawson drove past Brown’s residence and saw Land’s vehicle outside.

Lawson then asked Brown for materials inside the house and soon after become upset.  A disturbance led to t Lawson shooting both victims.

She faces preliminary charges for murder and attempted murder.

Three children were also found in the home after the shooting. IMPD said they were not place in Child Protective Services’ care.
