1 of 3 robbery suspects sought after gunfire with police outside AutoZone

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are searching for one of three robbery suspects who were in a gunfight with officers during the robbery of an auto-parts store Friday night. 

Just before 9:25 p.m., police responded to a call of a robbery in progress at AutoZone, 5455 N. Keystone Ave. Police encountered three people exiting the store, at least two of them with guns, and it is believed one officer fired fired two shots at the suspects. Police later recovered multiple handguns and an unknown amount of money believed to be taken in the robbery.

No police officers were hurt, but it was not known if any of the suspects was hurt, police said.

Police captured two of the suspects. One fled the store in a car that crashed about a block east of the crime scene; he was captured. Two suspects fled the store on foot, and police captured one of them. 

The suspect at large was wearing a red hoodie and a mask or covering on his face, police said. They did not believe the suspect at large was a threat to the public. Dogs and drones were being used to search for the suspect.

Employees were in the store. It usually closes at 10 p.m. on Fridays, but a police captain said he did not immediately know if customers were in the store.
