2 children taken to hospital following north side accident

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police are investigating a crash on the city’s north side that sent two children to the hospital.

The accident happened in the area near 71st Street and Highland Road around 8:45 Saturday evening.

Police said the accident happened when an eastbound jeep crossed the center line and hit a westbound minivan.

Following the accident, the driver of the jeep fled the scene on foot. It is believed that the driver was possibly intoxicated due to beer cans being discovered inside the jeep, according to police.

Police began searching for the driver.

A mother and two children were in the van, all three were taken to the hospital in stable condition.  The ages of the two children is unknown at this time.
