2 dead after plane crash at Tampa airport

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Emergency crews are responding to a report of a small plane crash at Peter O. Knight Airport on Davis Islands.

Crews were notified about the possible crash around 11:35 a.m. on Friday. Large clouds of smoke could be seen coming from the airport. Fire officials confirmed two people were found dead at the crash scene. Officials said one plane, a twin-engine Cessna 340 was taking off headed to Pensacola when the crash happened.

The wreckage at the crash scene is from one plane, according to the responders.

They haven’t released any information on how it happened or any details about the victims.

The crash reportedly happened a little before noon Thursday.

Tampa Police were responding to the scene.

Tampa International Airport reported that Peter O. Knight Airport was closed.
