Boone County couple face charges in infant son’s death

LEBANON, Ind. (AP) – A central Indiana couple faces felony charges in the death of their 2-month-old son.

The Boone County prosecutor’s office says 25-year-old Mitchell Shue of Lebanon and 23-year-old Miranda Roberts of Thorntown were charged Wednesday with neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Shue also was charged with a felony count of maintaining a common nuisance and misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

The prosecutor’s office alleges that the couple violently shook their infant last week, causing him to suffer brain injuries.

The boy was taken to a hospital Jan. 20 when his heart stopped beating. He was declared brain dead and removed from life support on Jan. 23.

Shue and Roberts are being held in the Boone County Jail without bond. It wasn’t immediately known whether they have attorneys.
