City-county councilor denies rape allegations

UPDATE: No charges will be filed against Adamson.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A city-county councilor is denying a rape allegation made against him.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that a report was filed on June 20 against Zach Adamson. The report alleges an incident that occurred in September 2015.

As of this afternoon, no formal charges have been filed against Adamson.

“We are working with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, and any public comment will be released by the Prosecutor’s Office,” said IMPD Major Richard Riddle in a statement.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said a special prosecutor will review the case due to Prosecutor Terry Curry’s “personal and professional relationship” with Adamson.

Adamson strongly denied the allegations, calling them ridiculous.

“I’ve only recently become aware of accusations against me, which are completely untrue and without merit,” said Adamson in a statement. “Unfortunately, it appears I’ve become a target of ridiculous accusations. These allegations of impropriety are false. I can’t say that any more strongly.”

Adamson is vice-president of the Indianapolis Marion County City-County Council.
