Columbus man late for work arrested following pursuit

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – A Columbus man who was running late for work was arrested following a police chase Friday morning.

According to the Columbus Police department, 28-year-old Jacob Waltermire pulled up behind officers in the area near 16th Street and Home Avenue just before 10 a.m.

Waltermire then began honking his horn and flailing his arms. At that time, police say they pulled over to see if the man needed any help. However, he then proceeded past the officers.

The responding officers then noticed Waltermire’s vehicle had only one working brake light and so then they tried to pull the vehicle over, but he did not comply with officers’ commands. A short pursuit then ensued.

Police say the pursuit went for more than a mile until Waltermire pulled into a parking lot in the 2200 block of North Central Road.

After pulling into the parking lot, Waltermire exited his vehicle and began telling officers that they were driving too slow, which was making him late for work.

He was taken into custody and transported to Bartholomew County Jail where he faces a preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle.
