INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A vehicle pursuit ended on I-65 with the driver of a vehicle taking his life, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

IMPD said that just after 12:15 a.m., in the 3400 block of South East Street, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, after stopping briefly, the vehicle sped away from officers.

The driver then led officers on a chase which ended at I-65 and Keystone Avenue. Police said as officers approached the vehicle, they observed the driver suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Several lanes of I-65 in the area were closed for a brief period of time as officers conducted their investigation.
