JOHNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — A three-vehicle crash in Dubois County Friday evening claimed the life of a southern Indiana man, Indiana State Police said.

Police say Samuel Weiler, 19, was northbound on U.S. 231 just south of W. 1100 S. traveling at a high rate of speed around 10 p.m.

Weiler lost control of his vehicle, ISP believes, and slid sideways across the southbound lane and into a Hyundai driven by Robert Hall, 73. Weiler’s vehicle flipped into a yard, and Hall’s SUV was disabled in the middle of the roadway.

The car traveling behind Hall, a Volkswagen driven by Ernest Volz, 21, collided with Hall’s vehicle.

Welier’s front passenger, Nicholas McKown, 18, of Huntingburg, was pronounced dead on the scene.

ISP did not release Weiler’s condition.

Hall was treated for minor injuries.

Volz and his passenger were uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation. Drug and alcohol tests are pending.
