Fire rips through building on city’s west side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Fire crews were out for several hours overnight in an attempt to extinguish a fire on the city’s west side.

Units were initially dispatched out to the building at 502 South Harris Avenue just after 11 p.m. at a car restoration business. That’s north of I-70 near Washington and Tibbs.

The cold temperatures made it difficult for firefighters to effectively attack the fire, making for slick work surfaces. The Indianapolis Fire Department reported that 100 firefighters were on scene in an attempt to contain the fire.

One person was inside the building as the fire broke out, but later evacuated. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
