Florida man hallucinating on meth drags kids into dark woods
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) – Deputies say a Brooksville man was high on meth and hallucinating when he dragged his two young children through the woods on Wednesday night.
Investigators say George Thomas Denty IV, age 35, admitted to snorting a one inch line of meth before he left his home with his daughter, age 7, and son, age 5, in the dark of the night. Deputies say Denty was in a panicked state of mind and dragged his children throughout the woods. He was also hallucinating by seeing persons who were not there and thinking that the persons were out to harm him.
The children were both wet and not wearing shoes when they were discovered with Denty in a heavily wooded lot on Powell Road. The boy and girl had several dozen abrasions to their back, arms, legs and face, according to an arrest affidavit. They were treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to Bayfront Health Brooksville for further evaluation.
Denty was also examined by paramedics at the scene. Deputies say he had a high body temperature, elevated heart rate, shortness of breath and several superficial scrapes and abrasions to his arms and legs.
Denty was arrested at Bayfront Health in Brooksville and charged with two counts of child neglect.
