High-tech firearms training facility is first in Midwest

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Technology that was once reserved to train law enforcement and members of the military has been made available in rare form in central Indiana.

Retired Navy SEAL Jesse Barnett sought an entrepreneurial lifestyle post-military when opening a firearm training facility on the northeast side of Indianapolis, except there is no actual fire.

Poseidon Experience features an advanced simulator and real guns that are loaded with compressed CO2, lasers and electronics in the place of bullets.

“I recognized that there was a demand but the historical or traditional method of using the live ranges to train people didn’t really interest me,” Barnett said. “The weapons are very accurate. The recoil is very accurate.”

Barnett first explained what makes his business different during an appearance on Weekend Daybreak. He later put anchor Drew Blair through a brief training session.

The facility, located at 9402 Uptown Drive, is the only one of its kind in the Midwest, according to Barnett.

He has marketed the range as effective for both expert and novice shooters, a date night destination and a safer, lower-cost alternative to maintaining skills with live fire.
