How cold, snow affects emergency responders

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Emergency responders are ready to tackle the weekend’s winter weather.

The snow and cold temperatures not only effect safety officals, but also their equipment.

Captain Michael Pruitt with the Wayne Township Fire Department and Sgt. John Perrine with the Indiana State Police stopped by Daybreak Saturday.

They discussed how the cold affects their equipment and why shoveling sidewalks, especially near hydrants, is so important.
