Iconic ‘Shawshank’ tree falls victim to strong winds
MANSFIELD, Ohio (WCMH) – The famous “Shawshank Redemption” tree came crashing down Friday when a line of storms with strong winds passed through Richland County.
The tree was previously damaged by winds in 2011, but stood defiantly strong for five more years.
The Shawshank Trail said on its Facebook page that “It is sad to see it down, it was sad when it split, it was inevitable, but like Andy said to Red, ‘No good thing ever dies.’”
Fans were invited to stop by and take photos before the tree was hauled away.
